Oakridge Chiropractic

As part of Oakridge Chiropractic’s multi-disciplinary approach to getting your body functioning at its best, Dr. Collin Watson and Dr. Ron Barlot offer Active Release Technique (ART) to their patients.

The dangers of muscle overuse.

The overuse of muscles is the culprit of a number of health issues. The repetitive use of a muscle group causes the build up of scar tissue, which limits the movement of tissues that need to move freely for the body to operate properly. As a result, muscles get smaller and weaker and nerves become trapped. Ultimately, this causes reduced motion, loss of strength and pain. There are a range of symptoms:

  • headaches
  • back pain
  • carpal tunnel syndrome
  • shin splints
  • shoulder pain
  • sciatica
  • plantar fasciitis (pain in bottom of foot)
  • knee problems
  • neck pain
  • running injuries
  • tendonitis
  • TMJ (jaw pain or clicking)
  • whiplash
  • muscle pulls or strains
  • wrist injuries

ART offers a new solution.

ART was developed as a new solution to problems associated with muscle overuse. It is an effective method of breaking down scar tissue to increase motion and restore full function to affected areas.

ART practitioners do this by applying a firm tension on the affected area as they put the patient’s body through a range of specific motions unique to ART. There are over 500 motions that can be used in treatment, allowing practitioners to choose the motions that best suit each patient’s individual needs. Practitioners select movements based upon ongoing examinations of the texture, tightness and movement of their patients’ muscles, ligaments, tendons and nerves.

Through this method, scar tissue is removed from affected areas, allowing muscles to work with a full range of motion, and allowing nerves to work without irritation.
